實正直的價值觀。我認為，忠誠這一必需的原則也意味著對我們內在自我的忠誠。

成長過程中，我曾幾度叛逆，與生活中的很多基本觀念背道而馳。但是，多次叛逆後，我想象著自己圍繞內布拉斯加平原的那座山走了整整一圈，終於明白這些美德的確經得起時間的考驗。

在逆境中給予我莫大安慰的另一個原則是仁愛。這是我們必須學習的美德。生活中的我很幸運，因為我能夠樂善好施。行善者不應祈求回報，因為我們從行善中所得到的滿足感便是最好的報答。

行善，必須真心誠意。否則，任何形式的給予皆是對生命本身極大的欺騙。

仁愛與忠誠深深感動著我的生命，為我生活的每一天帶來極大的滿足。每天臨睡前，忠誠這一原則都會提醒我反省自己一天的行為，確保當日的所作所為沒有為他人帶來任何故意的傷害。

每天臨睡前，我都會努力為自己對他人造成的傷害予以彌補。這無疑是種自私的行為，因為只有這樣，每夜我才不會輾轉難眠。

橫看成嶺側成峰，人生亦是如此。無論是在倫敦、巴黎、羅馬、開羅、紐約、好萊塢，還是內布拉斯加的瓦胡鎮，我所看到的美德始終不變。

感謝兒時在內布拉斯加學到的那些傳統美德。我希望，我能永遠對我所出生的這個國家滿懷謙恭、心存感激，因為它給予了我生存的機會。
